Tilt table testing

  • Laboratory Quiet, dim lighting, comfortable temperature; 5-10 min. supine equilibration period
  • Patient Fasting for 4-5h (patients > 60 years 2h) before procedure; follow-up studies should be at similar times of day
  • Recordings Minimum of 3 ECG leads continuously recorded; non-invasive beat-to-beat blood pressure (plethysmographic method recommended)
  • Table smooth, rapid transitions (up and down); foot-board support; fixing straps
  • Tilt duration Initial drug-free tilt 20-45 min; pharmacologic provocation
  • Pharmacological provocation isoproterenol (infusion preferred) or nitro-glycerine
  • Supervision Nurse or laboratory technician; physician immediately available
